This bathroom rewire in Kettering was carried out as part of a wider bathroom renovation. The client wanted a high-end result — not just functional electrics, but lighting that contributed to the overall look of the room. LED feature lighting was a central part of the design brief, and it needed to be planned and installed correctly to achieve the effect the client was looking for.
Bathroom electrical work carries specific requirements under wiring regulations, particularly around zoning and the types of fittings and accessories that can be installed in different parts of the room. Getting this right is not optional — it is a safety requirement — and it shapes how the lighting design is approached from the start.
A full rewire of the bathroom, with modern feature lighting as a key part of the finish. The client wanted LED strip lighting installed within a plaster-in profile to create a clean, recessed look with no visible LED strip or fitting — just a band of light from within the wall or ceiling surface. They also wanted feature LED lighting positioned behind the roll-top bath to give that area of the room a distinct, premium feel.
The bathroom circuits were rewired to current standards, with all wiring run to correct specifications for a bathroom environment. Lighting circuits were installed to support the LED profile system and the feature bath lighting.
The LED plaster-in profile channels require power routed into the wall or ceiling surface and connected to the LED driver at a position that allows access if needed. Getting this neat requires careful first-fix work before the plasterwork is applied — once the surface is finished, the profile is set into it and the LED strip is fitted inside. If the cable positions are wrong at first fix, there is no easy fix later.
The feature lighting behind the roll-top bath was positioned and connected to work within the bathroom zones relevant to that location, using appropriate fittings for the environment. The result was a warm ambient light that highlighted the bath without any visible fittings or cables.
Bathrooms are one of the areas in a property where electrical design matters most. The combination of water, steam and electrical equipment means that the regulations around bathroom zones — which specify what types of fittings and accessories can be used where — need to be followed correctly. Feature lighting looks straightforward when you see the finished result, but getting there safely requires understanding those requirements from the start.
Coordination with the bathroom fitter or renovation team is also important. Lighting positions need to be agreed before tiling and plastering, because moving a light fitting after the walls are tiled is a much bigger job than positioning it correctly at first fix.
All circuits were tested on completion, including insulation resistance and continuity checks appropriate for a bathroom installation. An Electrical Installation Certificate was issued confirming the work was completed to BS 7671 standards. The client was shown the lighting controls and circuits before handover.
