Many heating and hot water issues are caused by faults within the electrical control system rather than faults within the boiler itself. If the boiler is healthy but the heating is not responding, the fault may be within the electrical control circuit.
We test the electrical side of heating systems, including switched lives, control wiring, thermostats, smart heating controls, receiver wiring and wiring centre connections. We stay firmly within electrical work: heating controls, fault finding, wiring and safe testing.
Entigen does not carry out boiler servicing, boiler repairs, gas work, radiator repairs, plumbing repairs, power flushing or central heating installation. If the fault is within the boiler, gas appliance or plumbing system, a suitably qualified heating or gas engineer will be needed.
S-plan and Y-plan heating systems rely on programmers, room thermostats, motorised valves and boiler demand signals working together. If one part of the electrical control circuit is wrong, the heating or hot water may not come on, may not switch off, or may respond to the wrong control.
A wiring centre fault can stop heating working because the correct demand signal may never reach the boiler, pump or motorised valve. We identify the system type, test the control wiring and confirm whether the fault sits in the electrical controls or elsewhere.
Many heating faults originate from thermostats, programmers, wiring centres, receivers or motorised valve wiring. The boiler may be waiting for a signal that is never arriving, or receiving a permanent demand signal from a wiring error.
We can replace suitable programmers, timers, room thermostats and smart thermostat receivers where the existing wiring and heating controls are compatible. We do not provide DIY wiring advice and we do not ask customers to open live wiring centres or boiler controls.
A motorised valve can cause heating issues when its electrical switching does not operate correctly. The mechanical valve body may be part of the wider heating system, but the wiring, end switch and demand signal are electrical control points that can be tested.
If a valve, programmer or wiring centre has been changed previously, the heating may work in one mode but fail in another. We check the electrical route before suggesting replacement parts.
Smart thermostats are only as reliable as the wiring and compatibility checks behind them. If your Tado, Hive or Nest app appears to work but the heating does not respond correctly, the issue may be receiver wiring, a missing permanent live, a misidentified switched live or an incompatible control arrangement.

If the issue is in fixed wiring, a wiring centre, a thermostat receiver, a programmer supply or a switched live circuit, it needs electrical testing rather than guesswork. A heating engineer may be needed for boiler, gas or plumbing faults; an electrician is the right call when the control circuit itself is suspect.
We focus on safe isolation, conductor identification, continuity testing, live testing where appropriate, and proving whether the electrical control side is doing what it should. That helps avoid unnecessary boiler call-outs where the real fault is in the controls.

If the fault is inside the boiler, gas appliance, burner, combustion system or gas controls, a Gas Safe engineer will normally be required.
If the fault is within the electrical controls, wiring or switching system, an electrician experienced in heating controls may be the correct trade.
