Project Overview
We were recently asked to modernise the electrical installation within a large detached property in Barton Seagrave.
The existing installation consisted of four separate consumer units, including older fuse boards and additional distribution equipment that had been added over the years. The existing arrangement was difficult to access, lacked modern protection and offered limited flexibility for future expansion.
Following a full assessment of the installation, we designed and installed a new double-stack FuseBox consumer unit, consolidating all existing circuits into one central location while allowing plenty of spare capacity for future additions.
Scope of Works
- Removal of four existing consumer units
- Consolidation of all circuits into a single consumer unit
- Relocation of the electrical distribution equipment to a more accessible position
- Installation of a new double-stack FuseBox consumer unit
- Full RCBO protection throughout
- Type 2 surge protection installed
- Upgraded main protective bonding
- Installation of new containment using 100mm x 50mm trunking
- Extension and re-routing of existing circuits where required
- Full testing, inspection and certification
The Challenge
The property had evolved over many years, resulting in multiple consumer units serving different areas of the home.
Rather than simply replacing one board with another, the project required the complete reorganisation of the property's electrical distribution system. Existing circuits had to be carefully extended, identified, tested and consolidated into one modern installation while maintaining a clean and professional appearance.
Because of the size of the property, we also wanted to ensure the new installation was properly future-proofed. The new double-stack consumer unit provides ample spare ways for future additions such as EV charging, air conditioning, garden buildings, heating upgrades or other electrical improvements.

The completed installation provides the homeowner with a modern, safe and future-ready electrical system.
All circuits are now protected by individual RCBOs, helping to minimise disruption in the event of a fault, while the addition of Type 2 surge protection helps safeguard valuable electrical equipment against transient overvoltages.
The new consumer unit has been relocated to a more accessible position, improving both usability and future maintenance. New containment was installed throughout to ensure a neat, professional finish while accommodating the large number of circuits involved.
The consumer unit cover also has a Zapline emergency sticker in place, so if the homeowner ever has an electrical emergency they know exactly who to contact and can get the right details passed through quickly.
The end result is a significant improvement in safety, accessibility, organisation and future capacity compared to the previous installation.
